For the first time, actor Glen Powell has publicly addressed his ex-girlfriend Gigi Paris’s comments about their breakup, which coincided with swirling romance rumors involving his Anyone But You co-star Sydney Sweeney.
Powell, 36, and model Paris, 32, were in a relationship for three years before parting ways in early 2023. Their breakup happened amid growing speculation that Powell and Sweeney, 27, had developed an on-set romance during filming.
Glen Powell Admits to Playing Into Romance Rumors
Both Powell and Sweeney later acknowledged that they had intentionally leaned into the rumors, using their on-screen chemistry to boost the success of their romcom. Despite this, Paris voiced frustration at how the situation affected her personally.
Now, Powell has broken his silence. In a recent GQ interview, he expressed respect and understanding for his ex:
“I will always have nothing but love for her and respect for her. Everybody’s always going to have their own narrative on things and all that. And she’s welcome to it.”
Powell diplomatically added:
“Relationships are really hard. And when two people break up, they each go to their own brunch and they will each tell their own narrative.”
Gigi Paris Opens Up About Feeling ‘Made a Fool’
Paris had previously shared her side of the story in June during an appearance on Emma Klipstein’s Too Much podcast. She explained how she struggled with the public nature of the breakup:
“It was just, this is what I have to do for my job. I had two options. I could either pretend like I was going along with everything… or stand up for myself and say, ‘No, I’m actually not okay with this, and I’m walking away.’ So that’s what I decided to do … I was shattered.”
Paris further added that she sought respect and decency in handling the breakup:
“I just wanted respect, especially if it’s gonna be public… Just have some decency, you know? At the end of the day, it was like, well, work comes first. And if that’s the case, power to you, that’s your priority. I gotta walk away. What sucked was how it was handled. I felt like I was just fed to the dogs.”
Sydney Sweeney’s Single Status and Public Appearances
Around the same time, Sweeney confirmed she was single following the end of her engagement to producer Jonathan Davino. Her presence at Powell’s sister’s wedding in April fueled further speculation about her relationship with Powell. However, Powell’s mother clarified that Sweeney was “definitely not together” with him and had attended the wedding solely as a friend.
Powell Credits Tom Cruise’s Advice for Staying Grounded
Reflecting on how he manages public scrutiny, Powell revealed he relies on guidance from his Top Gun co-star Tom Cruise:
“He basically said, ‘Hey, it’s going to get really, really loud. It’s your job to just turn the volume down. Just remember you have your hand on that switch. You have your hand on the ability to turn up that noise or turn it down.’ Turning down the noise and trusting your own gut has been a real godsend for me.”
