Bob the Drag Queen, the RuPaul’s Drag Race champ and star of HBO’s We’re Here, has launched a new company called Purse First Studios to highlight queer stories and voices. On June 26, 2025, Bob shared plans for a bold new journey, switching things up from being in front of the camera to now calling the shots from behind it.
In a statement released Thursday, Bob shared, “Purse First Studios has a plethora of remarkable projects on the horizon. Having spent much of my career performing in front of the camera, I am eager to demonstrate my capabilities behind the scenes as well.”
The company was named after Bob’s signature saying “purse first,” a fun and powerful phrase that’s become a symbol of queer celebration and being yourself since the days of Drag Race.
Upcoming Projects: Centering Queer Stories and Voices
Purse First Studios is getting a lot of attention early on with its first show, an interview series named The Big Question. Bob brings the heat to the show, exploring wild topics with a crew of friends, comedians, and the occasional stranger.
In the first episode, Bob took on the question, “Why do Black people dislike musicals?” using a mix of laughs and thoughtful views on culture. But the studio has bigger plans than just doing talk shows.
A new show called Back in My Day is coming soon, and it’s all about giving queer elders a chance to share their life stories and how queer culture has changed since they were younger. “This is about honoring the trailblazers who made today’s freedoms possible,” Bob explained in a recent TikTok video. “It’s a platform for content created for queer audiences by queer individuals… Expect it to be enjoyable.”
Purse First Studios is teaming up on bigger projects with the queer creative community. Bob is a producer of the eagerly awaited documentary A Deeper Love: The Story of Miss Peppermint, which premieres June 26 at Frameline49, co-produced with Elliot Page’s Pageboy Productions, and it highlights the artistry and activism of fellow Drag Race alum Peppermint. “According to Page, Peppermint’s skills, strength, and voice have made a big impact on trans performers and encouraged a lot of people, and Bob’s company helped bring the project to life.”
A Platform for the “Girls, Gays, and Theys”
What Bob wants for Purse First Studios is clear: a space where queer people feel seen, heard, and celebrated in the most real and joyful way. “This will serve as a space the GG and Ts—the girls, gays, and theys – can gather, socialize, and have a good time,” Bob said, emphasizing the studio’s commitment to inclusivity and community-building.
Purse First Studios just dropped their new YouTube channel this week. Bob says it’s meant to be a go-to space for content made by queer people for queer viewers. Bob started out as a drag superstar and is now a media entrepreneur, always pushing to support others along the way.
Along with launching a new production company, Bob keeps co-hosting the popular podcast Sibling Rivalry with Monét X Change and recently dropped a debut novel, Harrietman: In Concert, which became a New York Times bestseller.
The entertainment world is still facing big questions about diversity and representation, and that’s exactly when Purse First Studios steps in. Bob the Drag Queen is lifting up queer voices that are usually pushed to the side, and by doing that, Bob is creating new chances for others to tell their own stories.
As Bob put it, “It’s about creating content that’s not just for us, but by us. That’s how we build community, and that’s how we change the narrative.”
