LTA Officer Caught on Camera Scolding Worker, Video Goes Viral; LTA Issues Apology
A viral video showcasing a Land Transport Authority (LTA) officer reprimanding a worker has ignited public concern over his conduct. The video, which quickly spread on social media, shows the officer throwing a worker’s driving license and questioning his competence, leading to widespread debate over the officer’s behavior.
Details of the Incident and Viral Video
The video, shared by the social media page SGRV, was reportedly recorded on 24 August 2025 at 601A Tanah Merah Coast Road. In the footage, an LTA officer is seen scolding a worker—believed to be a migrant laborer—over a seatbelt and driving license issue. The officer aggressively questions the worker’s driving abilities and even threatens to break the worker’s driving license. At one point, the officer slaps the license against the worker’s helmet before tossing it to the ground.
Public Reaction and Mixed Responses
The incident has sparked divided opinions online. Some viewers expressed outrage, criticizing the officer for his aggressive behavior and questioning whether his actions amounted to physical abuse. One comment noted, “This can be considered assault and abuse of enforcement power.” Others defended the officer’s concern for safety, with some arguing that the officer’s strict tone was necessary to emphasize the importance of seatbelt usage, particularly in larger vehicles.
A few observers compared the officer’s approach to the discipline seen in military settings, suggesting that his conduct was akin to instilling compliance through strict authority.
LTA’s Response and Apology
In response to the viral incident, the Land Transport Authority issued a statement on 25 August 2025, confirming that the officer involved was an LTA engineer. While the engineer was addressing safety concerns, the agency acknowledged that the manner in which he handled the situation was inappropriate. LTA reiterated that it does not condone such behavior and stated that the officer has been counselled on maintaining professional conduct. The engineer has also issued a direct apology to the worker involved.
LTA emphasized its commitment to reinforcing respectful and professional behavior while upholding safety standards at worksites.
