Andrew Levitt announced to receive prestigious Columbus award

Every year, the Steven Shellabarger Illuminator Award honors a Columbus-based individual who has shown exceptionally creative leadership in promoting and advocating for LGBTQIA rights within our community.
On Monday, June 10th, the City of Columbus will kick off Pride Week by presenting Andrew Levitt with the 2019 Steven Shellabarger Illuminator Award. Mayor Andrew J. Ginther and Council President Shannon J. Hardin announced Andrew Levitt as this year’s recipient for his remarkable and consistent activism within the local community and throughout the United States.
Andrew Levitt, also known by his drag persona Nina West, will accept the award at the Illumination of City Hall by proxy through Virginia West and Patricia Taylor.

Andrew Levitt is a pillar within the Columbus community. He has been performing as the vivacious Nina West for over eighteen years, raising over two million dollars through his act and through the Nina West Fund. His namesake organization fundraises and donates to local nonprofits and organizations that provide accessible services and support for the LGBTQIA community. Andrew has also generously helped fund and organize the Kaleidoscope Youth Center Endowment Fund, which will support the center’s growth and service to Columbus LGBTQIA youth. This year, Nina West competed on the nationally adored TV show, RuPaul’s Drag Race, winning the award for Miss Congeniality and calling national attention to Central Ohio’s lively LGBTQIA community.
